At the end of Day #5 of the 17th Asian Games, the top three medal winners remain China, South Korea, and Japan, with 118, 74, and 76 respectively (and South Korea still earns the #2 spot even though Japan has won more medals). Surprisingly, Kazakhstan is in the #4 spot with a total of 26.

On the SE Asia side of things, Malaysia now has a total of 8 medals, as does Singapore, Vietnam has 18, Indonesia failed to win more and still has 5, and Thailand now has 7, having won another bronze. The big news for Day #5 was Singapore’s Joseph Schooling winning the gold medal in the men’s 100m butterfly event, the country’s first, and so far, only gold medal.
