So yeah, Bang Rak is synonymous with food for me. It’s one of the reasons I like staying in the area – sumptuous street food 24/7. I like the area’s bustle too. It’s less touristy than around Patpong and though the sidewalks are just as congested, it’s a local scene and not vendors trying to palm off crappy souvenirs to the touri crowd.

The old lady in the picture at the top of this post is a fixture on the curb in front of Robinson. I’m not sure how much business she does, she only has a few pieces of the fruit and veggies she’s trying to sell and with both her and her goods huddled under her small umbrella, it’s not much of a display. But from the number of wadded up plastic surrounding her, her inventory seems to be quite extensive. Maybe you have to know, or ask.

Many of the food cart vendors change depending on the time of day, at night when the street market opens it seems to be more snacks up for grabs than anything else. There’s also a bunch of small wholesale food businesses along the block during the early hours of the day and its fun to watch them work; no matter how much of a drudge their job is they always are smiling and having a good time at it.

Fresh off the boat and still wiggling.

Being the guy who bags crushed ice has got to be a primo job in Bangkok’s sweltering heat.

With that many colorful toppings to choose from, does it really matter what is being sold?

Wanna make your boy du jour a happy camper? Try a visit to Bang Rak, it’s sure to please.
