Wat Chiang Man Monk
The 7 shot rule aside, I’d be hard pressed to pick which Monk Shot! from my most recent trip to Chiang Mai is my favorite, but it would be easier to do if I separate old monks from novices. Then, this one would have to rank at the top of the pile.
I was inside the main prayer hall at Wat Chiang Man and spotted this monk through the doorway of the modern wiharn next door. Had I still been shooting on film like in the old days, I would have had to pop open a few cannisters to cover all the shots I took. My original idea was to include the wood bars of the window I was shooting through in the foreground (and I did take lots of those). This photo, however, with the wiharn’s exterior detail framing part of the shot, I like the best. Shame the monk hadn’t been sitting on an Ubiquitous Plastic Stool, huh?
talking of monk(ees) as we are .. how sad that davie jones has died … did you know it was because of him that david bowie was called that ?
I did not know that Tim. But then I always had the hots for Micky instead. I was young enough to enjoy their show and music, old enough to enjoy their cuteness, and then quickly segued to an age where everyone derided them for being just a fake TV band. For decades, try to mention The Monkees in a conversation about the Stones or Beatles and you’d get laughed at. Then last holiday season I was doing a show that was packed with people and I’m A Believer came on over building’s sound system and I noticed everyone was singing along. The Xmas carols, not so much. But The Monkees’ tune got the crowd humming.
they where the first ever boy band .,. and yes at first it was for a t.v. programme … but sometimes talent comes thru .. they made 4 or 5 songs that everyone knows .. ok not upto the standard of the beatles of the stones .. but a fine band by any other standard .
i probably wont fly down to rio .. but then again i just might … not a monkees song .. but like i say sometimes talent comes thru .
