Team USA did well on Thursday, capturing six gold medals and tieing up the count for gold at with China at 18 each. Kayla Harrison became the first American judo athlete to win gold, taking the 78-kilogram title, while Gabby Douglas won the women’s gymnastics all around gold, our third consecutive win in that event. Our rowers held off Canada to win a second straight Olympic gold in the women’s eight Thursday, maintaining its six-year dominance of the high-profile event, and Michael Phelps added to his gold medal haul wining the 200 IM, the third time in a row he’s finished first in that event.

Tyler Clary surprised everyone, especially Lochte, by winning the men’s 200m backstroke, his first Olympic gold medal win, and Rebecca Soni set another world record to defend her 200- meter breaststroke title winning the gold and becoming the first woman ever to break 2 minutes 20 seconds.

Congratulations Gabby!
