This weekend the 2012 U.S. Gymnastic Trials were held and Danell Leyva finished first in the all around. Watching him on the high bar was a thing of beauty. He stands a real chance of medaling at the Olympics; our entire team is looking pretty good too and this year’s Games is the first since 1984 that we have a legitimate shot at the gold. Puerto Rican muscle stud John Orozco earned his Olympic berth along with Danell on points from the competition.

The other three spots, given to the whiter than white bronze medalist Jonathan Horton, Jacob Dalton of the beautiful eyes and screaming hot guns, and “ooops, I just broke my ankles again’ Sam Mikulak, were decided by a five-member selection committee using the over all abilities of each gymnast as well as their individual skills on teach gymnasts’s specialized event to form the best and strongest team possible.

Joshua Dixon, the U.S. gymnast who came out earlier this year placed 13th in the overall and did not earn a spot on our Olympic Team. The other openly gay gymnast who had a chance at competing in the Olympics, Jeffrey Wammes from the Netherlands, will not be in London either. His country had only one spot to fill; they chose his teammate Epke Zonderland soon after the Trials in January.

Jeffrey sued, the courts agreed with him that the decision was capriciously made and ordered the selection be based on the two gymnasts performances at the European Championships and World Cup competitions. Unfortunately Wammes did not compete at the final World Cup event due to a knee injury he sustained while competing at the Maribor Challenge Cup in June, and lost his opportunity to compete at the London Games/ Maybe one of the other Olympic gymnastic hotties will step up and claim their tiara.

Gymnasts are a competitive lot, so maybe Danell saw that Guys With iPhone shot of British gymnast Louis Smith and thought he needed to compete in that arena too. But who really cares why. The important thing is there are a series of iPhone shots of Lil’ D, and I thought I’d share them with you. That was the intention of this post, but then it’s difficult to not post a few more pix of this little hottie while I’m at it. Enjoy.
