Sweden’s decathlete Björn Barrefors, not an Olympian, but is a gargantuan.

Like many other US athletes both pro and collegiate who, come time for the Olympics, return to play on their native country’s national team Björn Barrefors represents Sweden at international competitions. A computer science major you’d think he attends the University of Nebraska for its education program but taking one look at the size of package this hottie hangs with it is just as likely that Sweden is just not large enough to contain all of the boy. On Twitter #bulge is defined by the 24-year-old Husker.

A six-time All American and the 2011 Indoor Heptathlon Big 12 Champion, Björn has competed in the NCAA and Big 12 Championships over the last four years in both the Indoor Heptathlon and Outdoor Decathlon placing within the top three spots in four of the eleven national competitions he has appeared at.

I’d love to tell you more about this stud (not that any of you are actually reading the text here) but while Google returns 35,400 results on a search of his name, 35,399 are links to his pix. I wonder why. But I was able to track down a few facts. In Stockholm Barrefors supplemented his training working as a waiter. As of June of this year he was ranked 5 nationally in the decathlon. And he is gay. (Kidding, but damn y’all just got excited didn’t you?)

As for his chances at winning a gold medal for the 10-event, two-day decathlon competition and being named the world’s greatest athlete at the London Olympics, I’ve got some good news and some bad news for you. The good news is, well, you haven’t noticed the pix? How much more good stuff do ya want you greedy little bastards! As for the bad news I’ll let Barrefors speak for himself. “The Olympics are not my goal,” he said earlier this year. “I don’t see much fun in just competing and going.” That, by the way, is Swedish for ‘I am not going to be in the London Games.’

Yup, despite the massive buzz over his massiveness that is burning up internet bandwidth thanks to Olympic (and bulge) fans, Björn did not qualify to represent his home country for the 2012 Games, which is not a matter of a specific competition but rather is based on points. The good news – which also includes the additional pix I was able to track down – is the boys of Brazil are gonna have some serious competition on Ipanema in 2016. “I want to wait four more years and be able to compete and perform at the highest level,” Barrefors says of his plans to be a serious challenger for an Olympic medal in the Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro.

I know. Me too. And I’m as surprised as you that the tons of sites reporting both his appearance at the 2012 Games and previously at the 2010 Games (Um, hello? Math anyone?) are mistaken. What is the internet coming to? Barrefors did compete at the 21st European Athletics Championships held at the Olympic Stadium in Helsinki at the end of June where he won his heat in the 100m race, and placed fifth in the 400m, but though he finished the first day of decathlon action in 14th place Björn failed to make it into any of the event finals, finishing in the 16th spot with 7537 point.

Olympic berth qualifications closed seven days after the European Championships, requiring 8,200 points for the A standard and 7,950 points for the B Standard. So sorry guys, but his numbers just don’t add up. Unless they handed out bulge bonus points. In which case they wouldn’t even be holding the competition and just awarding the gold medal to Björn instead.

So, technically I shouldn’t even be posting this article. Or the accompanying photos. But I’ve decided in the spirit of the Olympic Games I’ll emulate the gymnastics judges, completely ignore reality, and go with my flight of fantasy instead. Or maybe it’s just the blood in my head is racing elsewhere for some unknown reason right now.
