Day #14 of the 17th Asian Games ended with China (337), South Korea (228), and Japan (195) still leading the pack in total medals won. Thailand bounced up to the #6th spot with a total of 47 medals won, with Malaysia and Singapore in the 14th and 15th spot with 33 and 23 medals. Indonesia is ranked 17th with 20 medals overall, and Burma picked up an additional medal for a total of four to land in the 20th spot. Vietnam has only won a single gold medal even though it’s won 36 overall and is ranked just below Burma. Ouch. Cambodia won a gold, the only medal it won for #28, and Laos is in the 34th spot with two medals won, but neither being gold.

There is still one more day of the Games to go, with a few medals still up for grabs, and then the closing ceremonies which I hear will be three hours of Psy doing Gangnam Style to celebrate the Games’ fails, which have included the cauldron going out, lunch boxes supplied to athletes having salmonella, a pissed off press corps because the shuttle buses weren’t free, and South Korean officials throwing events to their athletes in several sports including wrestling, badminton, cycling, football, and boxing in several bouts including a penalty against Philippines’ boxer Ian Clark Bautista for ducking although Bautista is four inched shorted than his opponent from South Korea. Guess that’s what’s known as a home court advantage.
