Today is Labor Day in the U.S., or the last three day weekend of the summer as it is better known. It’s the cut off date for wearing white among the fashionistas, although the rest of us wouldn’t be caught dead wearing white other than a T-shirt anyway. I mean I don’t think I could ever date a man who owned a white belt, could you? But I digress . . .

Labor day celebrates the American labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of the country’s workers. It’s my favorite holiday of the year. Not because it constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of their country, but because of the irony of a holiday that celebrates the hard work and efforts of trade and labor organizations by giving workers a paid day off.

Of course, these folks are not the ‘job creators’ who really deserve all the credit for the current economic state of our country, if not the world. And I mean that sincerely. Instead they are just another example of the nanny state at work, living large off of hand outs the government provides them. Things like below poverty minimum wages. Thank the gods the right-thinking conservative politicians are doing their damndest to get rid of unions or we’d all be living in one big socialist state.

Um, but enjoy your holiday anyway. Or at least these fine examples of blue collar workers.
