I ran across this photo on the internet the other day. Unfortunately there was no accompanying text so I haven’t a clue where it was taken. I’m assuming it’s not in Uganda. But since it offers a photo op extraordinaire, I thought I’d post it to see if anyone out there does know. Plus, with Beachball out from under his rock again, I already have a Sunday Funnies post for this weekend, ‘cuz it too is good for a chuckle.

Judging by his outfit (and the phallus) this must be Bhutan. The national costume for men is called the gho.

Ah yes, the country big on penis decorating their walls!
Thanks Glenn.
Now I really do have to get to Bhutan.

“This is not Uganda” photo. I believe it is taken in Bhutan. 2 reasons: 1) I was there in October and saw many similar phallic items and 2) the man’s Bhutanese dress.

Looks like that’s confirmed. Thanks Paul!
Bhutan has a cute king too.

Observations: the rocks surrounding the linga may well be (iron-based) laterite, the linga seems to be sandstone (hard to tell when wet); there is moss and ferns on a lot of the laterite wall, so wherever it is, it’s continuously moist; the gentleman depicted is wearing shoes and socks(altitude?) a single grey tunic but his head is not shaved (religious, but not lowland Southeast Asia). He has hitched the tunic up, but I see no cord or belt of differing colour, and the sleeves are rolled back broadly, both suggesting East Asian behaviours. He wears a gold, single stone ring (coral?) on his right hand, perhaps consolidating the notion of a religious adept.
Conclusion: you are looking for a moist, high, East Asian location with a history of litoral-montane trade, that hosts Buddhists that wear grey tunics.
Over to you.
