Another gold, another gold medal hunk, and another rear view for Team Anti-Gay.

Another gold, another gold medal hunk, and another rear view for Team Anti-Gay.

Thank the gods for the X Games and the IOC’s decision to try and steal part of their pie. Team USA posted another gold in the win column thanks to freesyle skier David Wise’s efforts on the half pipe. And for the first time in these Games we get a second gold medal hunk in one post with Ted Ligety’s gold medal run in the giant slalom. This put the U.S. in second place for gold medals and in first for over-all medals, with Team Anti-Gay behind us in both by one, although NBC thought yesterday’s big news was that it was snowing in Sochi. Huh. Imagine that. Snow at the Winter Olympics.

No problemo. Fresh off a win from having caused Bode Miller as much emotional pain as possible, yesterday’s coverage included a lovingly captured minute and a half of a Canadian free-style skier crumpled in the snow and bellowing in pain after screwing up his knee during the half pipe competition. It’s nice that NBC now does the Agony of Defeat thing in surround sound. Their new motto seems to be that if it doesn’t cry, it’s not worth filming.

No athlete can be covered by the network unless he or she has ‘overcome an adversity’ to become an Olympian. No matter how small that adversity may be. Evidently to NBC it’s news that most athletes at that level of play have, at some time in their career, suffered an injury. And if they haven’t then someone in their family must be good to pull a sob or two out of the television audience. It’s trite, it’s been done before, and NBC will do it again and again rather than waste valuable air time on something as silly as the athletes actually competing in their events. Seriously, it’s time some other network took over the Olympics. At least if we’re gonna continue in this vein, let E do it. By now I’m ready to hear the commentators ask, “And who are you wearing today?” instead of “Can you tell us how you are feeling right now?”

And another gold for Team USA means another gold medal worthy hunk’s photo.

I don’t mind that they hired a Brit to provide color during the sledding events, but since their programing is for an American audience at least teach him that Utah doesn’t have an R in it. And someone needs to explain to that ditzy broad covering figure skating that you can’t emote over Jason Brown’s skill level for being only 19 when the gold medallist is only 19 too. Or better yet, run a zamboni over the bitch ‘cuz she contradicts herself every time she opens her mouth. Charlie White and the fish he ice dances with can’t ‘have a comfortable lead’ going into the finals at the same time the contention for the gold medal is too close to call.

After the brouhaha caused by that ignorant woman bullying Bode into tears, NBC said it was cool with her actions ‘cuz she was going ‘after the heart of the story.’ Huh. I thought the story was Bode having won a medal in his 5th Olympics. NBC thought the story was the recent death of his brother. They must have hired Boo Hoo for their editorial board.

On the plus side, usually I watch Bill O’Reilly to let all my aggressions out and since the Olympics coverage and Bill’s show are on at the same time I’ve not been tuning into FOX. But thanks to the idiots whose mouths NBC has given free rein to I’m not missing out on my nightly dose of yelling at the television screen.

Team Gay, btw, also picked up another medal, the fourth won by lesbian Ireen Wüst. The Netherlands speedskater took home silver in the women’s 5000 meters today. She now has three silvers and one gold, which place her in a tie with Finland. Though to be fair, I think there are more lesbian in the world than there are Fins.
