fire

While the big news of the day is the U.S. busy rattling its sabres at Syria while the powers that be decide when, if, and how the country will enter the fray – because our involvement in internal conflicts in the Middle East have always been so successful in the past – or, what a total skank Miley Cyrus has grown into (which would destroy her Daddy’s achy breaky heart if her career wasn’t responsible for his upkeep) depending on your choice of news agency, locally a still out of control wildfire that has already destroyed 184,481 acres is getting most of the press. Whose attention you can only get if you give your fire a name, and I can’t think of a more attention-grabbing moniker, or one more appropriate when it is burning as close to San Francisco as it is than ‘The Rim” fire.

Appreciation of its name aside, while the fire – the 11th largest in California’s history (so far) – is about 23% contained it is getting seriously close to many homes; both mandatory and advised evacuations for residents have been issued. I have friends and family who have been effected by the spread of the blaze, not to mention (and possibly more importantly) many individuals and businesses who are responsible for a large portion of my annual cash flow. So today’s post, as well as possibly those over the next few days will be on the light side while I spend most of my day at the evacuation center in Sonora helping in the Red Cross’ efforts. I did so yesterday . . . my suggestion of handing out marshmallows to the evacuees didn’t go over as well as I thought it would, but I’m sure they’ll appreciate seeing me there again today anyway.
