Practical merit making

It’s not unusual for churches in the U.S. to hold special events and collections to raise funds for a new roof. Some things are the same wherever you go in the world; it’s equally common to see wats in Thailand soliciting funds for the same purpose. The difference being they collect monetary offerings roof tile by roof tile and donors get to write their personal prayers on the ceramic shingles they pay for. Something tells me the Thais collect the cash they need a lot quicker.

I took this shot at Wat Pho in Bangkok which seems to be constantly under renovation. But running across a pallet of roof tiles waiting to be installed at a wat is a familiar sight.
