A killer ass like that brings on thoughts of la petite mort. So while we are on the subject . . .

Whitney Houston’s tragic death last weekend drove the final nails in Bobby Brown’s coffin too. His career as a has-been celebrity is now just as dead. Poor Bobby got stiffed in her will and can’t even expect to get booked on Celebrity Apprentice anymore. But Whitney’s passing, like a pebble thrown into a pond, had unexpected and even more far reaching implications. Her death also was responsible for Brithai’s demise as a poster on SGT this week.

When Da Boss took over the reigns at SGT last year, after a foolish and hastily reconsidered attempt at merging interests with Jabba the Butt’s board, things started looking up. It appeared Da Boss understood his board’s success relied on the involvement of posters. One of his more intelligent moves was to decree that when a moderator deletes a post he would note which rule the post violated. A simple requirement that acknowledged the value of anyone’s efforts at posting, simple politeness in recognizing if a post was to be deleted the poster should be told why. That idea has since been scrapped.

Da Boss recently posted that jinx, who tends to hit the delete button based on nothing more than which pant leg gave him the most trouble that morning, told him at the time he came up with that new policy it would never work. I’m not sure why if you have a set of rules it would be so impossible to note which was being invoked to justify deleting a post, but that bit of logic evidently is too much for SGT’s moderators to handle. So the board is back to arbitrarily hitting the delete button based on a whim. And not bothering to explain their actions.

There are no rules about protecting the sensibilities of the owner or moderators, but one member was recently scolded and sent to his room for 30 days for having done so. And our recently deceased Brithai had a snarky post about Whitney’s death deleted too. For no better reason than a moderator thought it was not in good taste. Because the board’s membership is not composed of adults who can not manage to read or not read posts on their own.

No one, Brithai included, would argue Whitney’s passing was tragic. But let’s be honest, she’s been a caricature of herself for years now. Watching her drugged-out crack whore act when she was ambulant enough to appear on camera was certainly more horrifying than anything Brithai could have come up with. Claiming a moderator was justified in deleting his post because he was protecting her memory is a joke. Evidently when it comes to dead celebrities, on SGT only a group hug is allowed.

Da Boss is put out, upset over having to justify arbitrary moderation decisions on his board. Sticking to using the posted rules to justify deletions would solve that; problem gone. Whitney was ultimately her own worse enemy, her death the result of bad decisions she made. It looks like SGT is going to honor her memory by doing the same. Perhaps Da Boss should go with the flow and change his avatar back to the grim reaper.

SGT has been losing many longtime and avid posters this year. Lately, they’re dropping like flies surpassing even the death toll of drugged out singers. The board is becoming a Pattaya-centric forum, as if there were not already too many of those around. With less posters its value is ebbing. While it becomes more and more like Jabba’s little world. One poster to the thread about Whitney noted that the policies and practices at SGT had nothing to do with free speech, its owner could decide what he does or does not want posted on his board. True. But then he also gets credit for the board becoming but a shade of what it once was. Jabba’s attempt at a board has never really taken off for that very reason. A message board should be driven by its posters, not the owner’s personality, likes, and dislikes.

And you can’t help but notice Da Boss’s final post on the Whitney thread sounded eerily familiar to those who have experienced Jabba’s iron fist. But then you wouldn’t know that. Evidently the entire matter over Brithai leaving offended one of the moderator’s sensibilities too. That series of posts has now been deleted.

Brithai, you’ll be missed. You may, however, want to change you mind and continue posting (even though you only had a 60% success rate at being funny). Standing on your principles can be satisfying; sticking around and being a pain in the butt can be even more enjoyable. So I’ll leave you with the words of the late, great Whitney Houston (slightly paraphrased):

If you
Should stay
You’ll only be in their way
So don’t go
‘Cuz ya know
It will bug jinx every step of
the way.
And I…
Will always love you
I…
Will always love you
You, ooh
(Cough, hack)
Bobby baby, give me another hit of that shit.
(Cough)
