Bangkok Monk

Colors of Bangkok

This is one of my very first monk shots. And is still my favorite. It’s not just the colors, or the familiar juxtaposed with the exotic. This photo talks to me. I shot it in Bangkok, by the Grand Palace. Damien, a friend from Indonesia, and I were visiting the area as it was his first time in Bangkok. He is a camera buff too, so we were having a great time doin’ the photography thing. He’d decided he wanted a bunch of pix shot of him with monks. But rather than approach one and ask, he liked to sneak up on an unsuspecting monk, strike a pose, and have me surreptitiously snap the shot from across the street. His antics were cracking me up. I’ll have to post a few of those.

Lots of monks in this area. While he was furtively closing in on one, if he saw a monk by me he’d stop and go into English Pointer mode. Dude really was hilarious. Well, he spotted this novice monk walking behind me, pointed, I turned and fired off a shot that should have ended up being nothing but a blur of motion. Instead I got this.
