Novice monks from all over Laos come to Luang Prabang to study. The small town is overflowing with young monks decked out in their saffron robes. I still haven’t figured out why some wear vivid orange and others honey-gold, other than it seems to be personal preference.
I took this photo, along with a few hundred others, at dusk one night at Wat Hosian Voravihane. During our tour of the wat, the monks had gathered for evening chant, both an auditory and visual delight.

The colour of the robe probably changes with age (not that of the monk, the age of the robe, or rather for how long it has been worn and washed).

Thanks Christian. I’d never considered that possibility.
