married to it

Something tells me she should not be wearing white.

Ah those crazy Koreans . . .

The rest of the world is concerned about North Korea’s decision to try a nuke next time since they did so well with their last rocket launch, but with this news item the South Koreans have me much more worried. Lee Jin-gyu, a 28-year-old Korean man was so obsessed with his dakimakura he married it in a special wedding ceremony presided over by a local priest.

A dakimakura is a large pillow from Japan that typically has an anime character printed on it. Lee’s bore the likeness of Fate Testarossa, a character from the animated series Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha. For the ceremony the body pillow was dressed in a white wedding gown.

It was not a whirlwind romance. Lee was dating his pillow for six years before he decided it was time to tie the knot. “They go out to the park or the funfair, where it will go on all the rides with him,” says a friend of Lee’s, possibly his only one. “Then when he goes out to eat, he takes it with him and it gets its own seat and its own meal.”

Nice to know that while a gay man in Korea can not marry his boyfriend, if your romance is with a body pillow you can arrange a ceremony to celebrate your life time commitment to each other.
