Over the next few days – which with procrasturbation probably means a few weeks – I’ll be making some changes to the format of this blog. It’s something I’ve been meaning to do for a while now and just keep putting off. This sticky post should help force me to get off my ass and do it.

So if things look a bit strange when you drop by, ignore it. I like change, so I’ll probably change something I’ve already changed in the days and weeks to come. I just hope when it’s all done I don’t change everything back to the way it was.

Not that there are a lot of changes possible. Those I’m planning on are all ‘work arounds’. When you sign up for a blog on WordPress, you get to pick a ‘theme’. The one I use is called Chaotic Soul. The look fits the ambiance I was going for, and the name appeals to me. For some unknown reason. A blog’s visual theme covers everything but content: layout, colors, font attributes, etc. That’s nice. You don’t have to think, you just start blogging. But the trade off is that you don’t get to change any of those attributes either. You are stuck with what the graphic designer who created the theme chose.

Probably the biggest bitch from readers, and one I agree with, is that the font used on this theme is too small. It’s not exactly huge to begin with, but then after a post moves off the most recently published spot it shrinks to an even smaller size. Nada I can do about that. I’ve tried using HTML code to force a different size and the theme rejects it. I may have found a work around; I’m trying it in this notice. We’ll see.

The second biggest bitch is that it is difficult to read light type against a dark background. Too bad. That’s not changing. First, the theme won’t allow it. Second, it fits the world I’m trying to create. Third, quit repeating stuff you’ve heard or read that really isn’t applicable and is more myth than fact. That bit of graphic design ‘truth’ is from the print industry; it’s about technology from fifty years ago. Some lazy writer borrowed that bit of advice and applied it to the internet and since then it’s been accepted as a design rule. Except among graphic designers who know better.

So hang in there, ignore the man behind the curtain, and if you see something you really like over the next few days let me know. Before I change my mind and switch it out for something else.

(Update)

Well, hell. So much for that chore. And I didn’t even get an orgasm out of it.

The first work around I tried on my beloved Chaotic Souls theme failed. Miserably. So I decided to try a new theme. And I pity anyone who clicked in while that was going on.

I found a new theme that still has the dark look I was after, but you can actually read the posts now. An added plus is that the archived posts now come up in their entirety instead of just the title. So you can click on a heading, like ‘Eye Candy’ and you’ll get to see all the posts filed under that category. Which in that case is a whole bunch of naked guys. Sweet!

There’s some nice backend stuff for this theme too. But that’s about me, not you. And there’s some odd post formats that I’ll play around with in the coming days . . . but mostly I think I’m done.

Whaddya think?
